I had dis argument with some friends of mine who came back from europe. Our argument was which country(ies) is the better place to drive a car. Well, their wasnt much in their argument except dat they prefer driving in Nigeria as it is much easier even though hectic to drive around. They gave quite a lot of points but for the purpose of this write up, let me make it brief.
Point one, their argument was dat in major cities of europe america u can't drive beyond the recommended speed limit or u'll get a ticket.
Point two, road signs n symbols must be strictly adhered to or u risk d impound or a ticket 4 disobedience.
Point three, drunk driving, a serious offence overtheir, i guess u know wat happens next if u ar caught
Point four, no abeg or money exchange hand if u ar caught, its just direct to the point, jail, impoundment or ticket.
Point five, getting a drivers licence, very difficult as if u want to rewrite Jamb exams.
Point six and a funny point at dat, dat in europe u can be pulled over at anytime for little suspicion of anything, also 4 petty offence like overspeeding, u can be chased by d police until u ar caught. I called dis point funny becos my friends said police only chase armed robbers and thieves in Nigerian not traffic offenders.
Let me halt here cos their points are still many.

B4 i end my writeup, let me give a little insight about driving in Port Harcourt where i live.

On a clear blue sunday morning, i tried 2 drive out of my gate n d first thing dat gets my attention is the presence of serious traffic jam rite infront of my gate, imagine dat on a sunday morning. After some time wasting, i finally succeed in getting to the highway only 2 get caught in another serious traffic jam dis time caused by a church crusade. The church congregation blocked a complete lane on d highway without blinking an eye about motorist passing tru. After spending close to an hour in a compulsory church procession i decided to pass tru a bye street only to be stopped by huge potholes and gullies adding to the huge downpour, some parts were completely flooded. I succeeded in scaling tru dat hurdle and came back to the major highway only to be met by police brutality in my own words cos police patrol and bullion vans were all moving oneway facing oncoming traffic jus to avoid d traffic jam on their own lane. To cut a long story short, i finally succeeded in getting to my location but something caught my attention, their were so many people around cos their was a small market place nearby which made me to reduce my speed considerably. But can u believe dat those walking refuse to leave the road even after horning for minutes, the traders too have completely blocked half d road jus to make quick sales, their was a busstop close bye, plus a huge refuse dump on d way. I guess u can imagine how dat place looks like. The driving was hell 4 me n i began to remember wat my friends say dat driving in nigeria is easier than driving in europe.

So, which is better? Nigeria or European or American Countries.

This is like comparing death with sleep, there is no comparison at all.
In Nigeria you can be a holder of Nigerian driver licence without knowing how to drive.
No signs and nothing to follow on the road, everyone is just on their own.

I prefer Nigeria, but strictly for selfish reasons.

I was quite a colourful young man when I first started driving abroad. But the law frowned on it, tickets for beating the red light, tickets for overtaking in the wrong lane, ticket for doing 60 something mph in a 30 mph zone. . .

Went to court twice because of driving. . .

In Nigeria, nobody will give you a ticket if you want to kill yourself.

Whats he doing overseas?, let him go to Nigeria and drive where he loves the most, it is people like him that needs to be extricated from Nigeria if progress is to be achieve. We have so many people like him that is why even when looking through the tunnel there seem to be no light in the distant future. It is people like him who enjoy the positives abroad and come home to preach the negatives in order to forever keep Nigeria in darkness.

like everyone with a driver's license overseas actually knows how to drive- including Nigerians.

Granted however, your chances while driving are better abroad, ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL AND IF ITS NOT YOUR TIME YET.

A good number of nigerians fail their first driving test here. Even after years of so called driving in Naija.

Do not mind them. This is why Nigeria never be in progress. They go to abroad and followed the rules. They return to Nigeria and do the opposite things and yet they will be the first to complain that Nigeria is below third world country. Those of us that drive in abroad suppose to be a remodel to Nigerians that are back home. Shame for those that go to Nigeria and not obey the laws.

As for driving in abroad is more safer and easier. You know your limit and where you are aheading unlike Nigeria, until someone tell you that you are in Ibadan or Ore or Benin city, you will not know where you are. As for me, Nigeria is the last place on earth where I will never drive. The day I am ready to settle down in Nigeria, I will hire driver period.

Driving Overseas is easier and safer than driving in Nigeria.

9ja driving nah die for lack of a better term. I drove in lagos this summer when I visited, my first time ever driving in 9ja. To say it was nerve racking is an understatement, but I'll tell u what it didn't take me long to catch up with the driving madness.
My gurl's dad is a retired soldier, so I drove one of their cars with a a soldier belt & koboko on the dash. whenever one of the danfo drivers tried to cut in front of me or I cut in front of them & they saw the belt & koboko they backed off . I mysef come get road rage, I don't curse so my gurl did all the cursing wile I drove. The scariest part was I saw a driver that missed his exit & instead of going to the next exit & turning around ma guy just decided to put the car in reverse on a express way & started reversing. The same exact thing occurred when I caught a cab in abuja, instead of the slowpoke of a driver going to the round about cuz he passed where we were headed he put the car in reverse on the highway, I was begging him just to go to the round about while my gurl was cursing his azz out for endangering our lives. The most bizarre thing I noticed while driving in 9ja was the constant use of the horn, you have to constantly honk your horn & also non of the drivers stayed on their lane, oops I forgot there aren't any lanes in 9ja. I traveled quite extensively by road when I visited 9ja & all I can say is it's only God that looks out for us cuz of all the reckless driving taking place on the road.
And oh by the way, the so called traffic wardens or yellow fever whatever u call them these days were oblivious of all the traffic gridlock around them. They were more concerned about which driver they would extort next,

That is funny, but very true. I remember how one of my JJC cousins was making mouth about how easy it was to drive here in Yankee. Day of driving test: the guy failed parallel parking, hit multiple cones, and could not brake at the marked line.

Danfo, Molue, Private cars, everybody is just crazy^^^^

Madness/Reckless driving!!! 

Conclusion:

Driving in abroad is better - safer

Driving in Nigeria is easier - risk

Driving abroad is dull, why build cars with high capability and then impose speed limits?
What traffic lights? We synchronize our driving at intersections, it's part of the fun.
Traffic jams? What better excuse for getting to work late?
Zebra crossings? But we don't have zebras in Nigeria, or at least not on our roads. They better rename them human crossings if they want us to respect them.
Road rage? Aren't we naturally aggressive and we are we to express our frustration with People Deceiving People government.
